The selected journal for the publication of the review is “Mutation Research-Reviews” whose subject area is the investigation of mutations and their applications, particularly focusing on the relationship between mutations and disease. So, the review is related with the subject area of the journal. The impact factor is 6.426 and the impact factor for five years is 8,202.

The title “Crosstalk Between telomere maintenance and radiation effects: A key player in the process of radiation-induced carcinogenesis” summarizes the content, but it is a bit sensationalist, because as expressed in the conclusions of the article, much more work has to be done yet to understand and document the relationship between the carcinogenic effects of radiation and telomere maintenance.

Even though the abstract summarizes the content of the main text, it does not express the conclusions of this review, which is one of the fundamental supports of a good abstract, because if they are omitted, it does not allow the reader to decide whether to continue reading the main text or not.
The introduction contextualizes the review correctly, expressing the importance of the understanding of the mechanisms by which ionizing radiation induces carcinogenesis.

The rest of the text presents an orderly manner the current knowledge on the role of telomeres and the effects of radiation on their maintenance, referencing almost all the statements made, displaying a great job of reviewing an extensive bibliography, showing objectivity and lack of speculations.

As a negative critique, based on the attributes that a good review must have according to Whittemore and Knafl, it is not stated how the literature was elected, nor its level of evidence and the clinical implications of the conclusions extracted from the review are not clearly reflected.
